strengths and weaknesses for engines

i think by adding more engines you can develop a strategic use element into them, like say a LNER Gresley Class A1, or for people who don’t know engines gordons type of engine from thomas and friends, but as i was saying you could have an engine like that be able to pull more rolling stock but be able to keep its speed. idk if anyone presented engine variations but with more emphasis on different strengths and weaknesses rather than just visual representation.
